How to check a bank terminal in Torgsoft

Checking a bank terminal depends on how it works with Torgsoft. If the terminal is integrated with the program, Torgsoft sends the payment amount to the device and waits for a response with the transaction result. If there is no integration, the cashier processes the payment on the terminal separately and manually records the cashless payment in Torgsoft. Therefore, a closed payment window in the program does not by itself confirm that funds have been credited to the bank account: the crediting is reconciled using bank data or a bank statement.

How bank terminal integration with Torgsoft works

To send the purchase amount from Torgsoft to a bank terminal, the additional option “Integration with a bank terminal | 1-year license” is required. During payment, the cashier selects cashless payment and the settlement account linked to the terminal’s merchant. After clicking the “Pay” button, Torgsoft sends the request to the terminal. If the terminal returns a positive response, the program completes the payment.

The connection method depends on the terminal model, bank, and protocol. Different configurations use Ethernet or COM/USB, drivers, and libraries provided by the bank. Terminal setup is performed separately for each workstation.

What to check before testing

  • The bank terminal is turned on and has a working connection to the bank.
  • The terminal is connected to the computer or local network according to the selected connection method.
  • The required bank drivers and libraries are installed on the workstation.
  • The correct terminal protocol is configured in Torgsoft.
  • The settlement account and the required transaction type are specified for the merchant: payment, refund, or both operations if the configuration supports it.
  • After changing terminal and merchant settings, the data is saved and Torgsoft is restarted.

How to check the terminal without creating a sale

There is no universal test for all bank terminals. Available actions depend on the protocol. In some configurations, Torgsoft can receive information about the connected terminal and its merchants. For certain protocols, the bank also provides its own test utility.

For the SSI_JSON protocol, Torgsoft provides three separate actions:

  • “Connection test” checks whether the merchant is configured correctly and whether it is available on the terminal.
  • “Payment test via terminal” starts a payment transaction for a merchant that allows payments. This is a real transaction on the bank terminal, so after checking, perform a refund if needed.
  • “Refund test via terminal” starts a refund. It requires the RRN of the original payment transaction.

If these actions are not available for your protocol, perform the check without a sale using the tools provided for the specific driver or bank terminal. After that, it is worth separately going through the full sale scenario in Torgsoft, because it checks the connection between the cash register transaction, settlement account, merchant, and terminal.

How to make a test payment through Torgsoft

  1. The cashier adds an item to the “Sale” form.
  2. In the payment window, the cashier selects cashless payment and the required settlement account.
  3. If the account is linked to the merchant of the connected terminal, the cashier leaves the “Use connection with bank terminal” parameter enabled.
  4. The cashier clicks “Pay”. Torgsoft sends the amount to the terminal.
  5. The buyer or employee completes the payment by card or another payment method supported by the terminal.
  6. After a positive response from the terminal, Torgsoft completes the payment.

What counts as a successful check

For an integrated terminal, check the entire chain: the terminal accepted the transaction, Torgsoft received a positive response and completed the payment, and the transaction details or slip receipt are available to the extent returned by the specific terminal and protocol.

The actual crediting of acquiring revenue to the company’s account is checked using bank data. This stage is needed for financial reconciliation. It is performed separately from the technical check of the connection between Torgsoft and the terminal.

How to check a refund through the terminal

After the test payment, create a refund from the sale you have just checked. If a refund merchant is configured for the settlement account, Torgsoft will send the transaction to the bank terminal.

During the refund, consider the integration conditions:

  • Do not combine items from different sales in one refund document if the money must be returned to the card. Torgsoft must clearly identify the original payment.
  • For a separate transaction, Torgsoft can show the transaction and the available refund amount. The amount can be adjusted downward in the scenario provided by the program.
  • If the payment was made with several transactions through a bank terminal, Torgsoft does not perform a refund of such payment through the terminal.
  • Additional refund conditions apply for certain protocols and banking services. They are checked when setting up a specific terminal.

What to do if the bank terminal is not integrated with Torgsoft

Without integration, Torgsoft does not start the transaction on the terminal and does not receive the result from it. The cashier manually enters the amount on the terminal, completes the payment, and then records the cashless payment in Torgsoft to the required account. In this mode, the employee must reconcile the amount in the program with the transaction result on the terminal.

If the software cash register needs to transmit bank transaction details, Torgsoft can use the settings “Transmit payment by bank terminal” and “Request bank terminal payment parameters”. After the payment is processed, the cashier transfers the data from the terminal to the payment parameters form.

Use bank data to reconcile the actual movement of funds. If needed, account transactions can be loaded into Torgsoft through the additional option “Bank Statements | 1-year license”, if your bank account is supported by the relevant integration.

How to work during temporary unavailability of an integrated terminal

If the integration option is activated and Torgsoft temporarily cannot work with the terminal, the cashier can disable the “Use connection with bank terminal” parameter during payment. After that, the program does not send a command to the terminal. The employee processes the payment on the terminal separately and, if provided by the settings, manually enters the transaction parameters in Torgsoft.

This mode requires the cashier to check the amount additionally, because at that moment Torgsoft does not receive the result of the payment transaction directly from the terminal.

What to check if the payment does not go through

  1. Connection with the terminal. Check power, network connection, IP address, or COM port according to the selected scheme.
  2. Driver and protocol. Make sure the files and libraries provided by the bank for the specific integration method are installed.
  3. Merchant. Check whether the required merchant is registered on the terminal and whether it is correctly configured in Torgsoft.
  4. Settlement account. The account selected during payment must be linked to the merchant of the required transaction.
  5. Integration parameter. During integrated payment, the “Use connection with bank terminal” parameter must be enabled.
  6. Remote work configuration. If Torgsoft works via RDP and the terminal is connected via COM/USB, the payment may be completed on the terminal without completing the transaction in Torgsoft. For such configurations, the help documentation recommends considering Ethernet connection. WebSocket connection is available for some terminals.

Quick check before starting cashier work

  1. Make sure the terminal is turned on and available.
  2. Check the merchant and settlement account settings.
  3. Run the connection test available for your protocol or the service check of the bank driver.
  4. Make a full test payment from the “Sale” form.
  5. Check that Torgsoft received a positive result and completed the payment.
  6. Check the refund if this scenario is used at the checkout.
  7. Reconcile the actual crediting of funds using bank data if you need to check the full financial cycle.
