Why connect electronic scales to the accounting program?

Selling weighted products is more difficult than pre-packaged ones: you need to weigh the product, calculate its cost, record the sale, and deduct the corresponding quantity of the product from stock. Entrepreneurs simplify this process by automating it — they purchase electronic scales, connect them to the accounting program, and the program does all the calculations, updates quantities in stock, generates reports, and more. The program also prevents errors, which is important both for business profitability and for the store's reputation.
This article describes how to work with Dneproves VTD-15RS and Vagar VP-N-30 LED RS232 15/30 electronic scales: how to connect the scales to a computer, to the accounting program, set everything up, and automate the sale of weighted goods.

Briefly about these models of scales

Both models of scales operate from a 220V network and from a built-in battery. They are equipped with a touch-sensitive waterproof keyboard, LED display, stainless steel platform, built-in battery, rubber feet, and an RS-232 port. The scales also feature an energy-saving mode and a battery charge indicator. The weight and cost of the product are displayed on the LED display.

What is the difference?

• Dneproves VTD-15RS — scales for weighing products up to 15 kg, equipped with a stand with a display for the customer. View detailed description of the model and order with free delivery at the online store.
• Vagar VP-N-30 LED RS232 15/30 — for products up to 30 kg, without a stand, equipped with a two-way display for the seller. These scales also emit a sound signal in case of overload. Check the price and buy with free delivery here.

The scales connect in the same way, the connection cable is included, but in some cases, an RS232-USB adapter and a driver for connection may be needed. The driver can be downloaded from the product description on the Torgsoft website via the links above in the text.

How to connect electronic scales to the accounting program?

Step by step:

1. Turn on the scales → connect the scales to the computer using the included COM cable → install the driver if necessary (available in the product description on the Torgsoft website) → turn on the Torgsoft program. If the Torgsoft accounting program is not installed yet, you can activate a 30-day free demo version.
2. In the Torgsoft program, go to the menu “Settings” → “List of additional features” → check the box next to “Connecting electronic scales for weighing products at the time of sale” → click “Activate”.
3. Go back to the program menu “Settings” and select “Parameters” → “Scales” → select the required scales → specify the port number → activate “Save connection with scales” and “Use scales to determine the weight of the product in sales” → click “Save”.

How to find the port number? ─ The port number for connecting the scales can be viewed in “Device Manager” → “COM and LPT Ports”: next to the model name of the scales connection cable, the port number “COM…” is listed, for example “COM6”.

Done, you can now weigh and sell the product:

Go to the “Sales” form → place the product on the scales → scan its barcode and the price per kilogram and the cost of the weighed product will appear on the scales immediately. In the “Sales” form, if necessary, uncheck “Set weight manually”, click “Save” and “Pay” — you can print the receipt.

To assign the “Weighted” label to a product:

Go to the program menu “Product knowledge” → “Product type” → select the product type → click “Change” → set the unit of measure to “Weighted” → “Save”. Done, — when scanning the barcode of this product, the program will automatically request weighing.
For convenience, to avoid assigning the “Weighted” property to each product separately, we recommend creating a whole branch in the product types tree called “Weighted Products” and marking this entire section as “Weighted”.
