A receipt printer is a device that prints sales receipts. These can be regular sales receipts or fiscal ones if you have connected an electronic cash register (ECR). Receipt printers are also used for printing return receipts, cash collection receipts, internal reporting documents, and more. Receipt printers are essential in retail, with one printer purchased per checkout counter.

Receipt printers differ in terms of receipt paper width, print quality, speed, size, durability, protection level, features, availability of an auto-cutter, interfaces, connection method to point-of-sale equipment, and price.

How to Choose a Receipt Printer?

To buy the best receipt printer for your business, consider the following factors:

✅ Where will the printer be used? In a kitchen or restaurant where it is hot and humid, at an outdoor market, or in a taxi? — There are portable receipt printers as well as models with enhanced protection.

✅ What is the sales intensity? 20–100 sales per day or 1,000-2,000? — Printers are designed for different workloads, usually indicated in product descriptions on the online store website.

✅ How much space is available at the checkout, what equipment will the printer connect to, and how will it be operated to print receipts? — The selection includes standard-size models, compact models, and mobile receipt printers. Some printers connect via Bluetooth, allowing receipt printing from a mobile phone.

✅ What type of receipts need to be printed, and what content should they have? Do they require graphical elements and logos? — For such tasks, printers with high print quality and customizable receipt templates are needed.

✅ Do you need to print large receipts, such as internal reports? — For this, you need printers that support wider receipt paper.

How to Set Up Receipt Printing on a Printer?

All receipt printers print non-fiscal receipts by default. To print a fiscal receipt, you need to configure the ECR in the accounting software and set the fiscal attribute for goods in the Torgsoft menu «Product Management — Product Type.»

To set up receipt printing, go to the main menu option «Settings — Parameters — Receipt tab»:

Select the «Receipt Type» for printing:

Non-fiscal
Fiscal
Mixed (fiscal + non-fiscal)

In the «Receipt Print Template» field, select a convenient template. — Templates are available for receipt printers using 57mm and 80mm receipt paper, as well as for office printers printing receipts on A4 sheets. Each template can be edited as needed using the «Configure» and «Save» buttons.

To print a standard sales receipt, do not forget to specify the «Receipt Print Conditions»:

✔️ «Mandatory for each sale» — the printer automatically prints a receipt after each sale.

✔️ «At the customer's request» — when selling goods, the «Receipt» button will be available in the «Payment» window for printing a receipt upon customer request:
